Oceanside Earns First Place at Vista
The Oceanside High School Marching Band & Pageantry competed yesterday at the 30th Annual Vista Invitation Field Tournament at Vista High School. Despite the wettest weather the band has had to compete in for several years, they were able to take first place in the 2A Division with a score of 73.4. Additionally, they took the music sweepstakes award, recognizing them for the highest music score of the afternoon portion of the competition.
If you haven't had an opportunity to check out the band's show this year, you still have a few opportunities left, the next being the Ramona High School show in Riverside, California.

Tuesday, November 15: Rehearsal in the stadium... 6:00-9:00pm
Thursday, November 17: 7th Period Pageantry & Percussion... 2:30-4:30pm

Cut-a-Thon Fundraiser August 21
Hey Everybody
Tell your friends! Tell your coworkers! Tell your extended family! Tell your neighbors! Tell the clerk in the grocery store! Tell the Starbucks barista! Maybe even tell the person you meet walking your dog!
Tell them what?
Tell them about the CUT-A-THON at TNT Hair Design, 1839 So. Coast Highway in Oceanside, next Sunday, August 21st from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hair Designers will be there ready to work on their hair to help get ready for school or work or just because they want a new haircut. Tell them that a new "do" at the CUT-A-THON would also support the OHS Instrumental Music Program. There will be a minimum $10 donation. If they ask, the dog will still know and love them with a new haircut BUT they may just impress someone else with the new haircut and they'll look so good while consuming their favorite Starbucks drink!
See you there!

Book Fair Coming Soon!
Remember the Book Fair at Barnes and Noble, 2615 Vista Way in Oceanside next Wednesday, July 20th!
Real live authors, Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie will be at Barnes and Noble from 6-8 p.m. for a precomicon book signing! Nancy and Debbie coauthored the Wicked Series as well as each authoring several books on their own. Bring your copy of your favorite book--or better yet, purchase a new one to read--for Nancy and Debbie to sign. Won't that be cool! A brand new book signed by the author sitting on your bookshelf right out in plain view for everyone to see! Maybe you'll even want to leave it on the coffee table where it would be even more visible! And you will have supported the Oceanside Instrumental Music Program as well! And you won't even have to push your way through the comicon crowds! So amazing!
In addition, the Oceanside Instrumental Music Boosters and Oceanside Instrumental Music Students will be there during the day manning a craft table for kids visiting Barnes and Noble. The Boosters who manned the craft table at the last Book Fair had such a great time, you don't want to miss the opportunity to be part of the fun. Please let Maggie know what hour(s) of the day you'd like to make crafts with great little kids and talk to some future instrumental music parents.
And the best part--Barnes and Noble will donate a percentage from each purchase to the Oceanside Instrumental Music Program!--all day long!--from open to close!--9 a.m.-11p.m.!
What if you can't get there on July 20th? Don't lose hope--you can still support the Oceanside Instrumental Music Program--just make your purchases online! It's easy-you can do it! Here's the address: BN.COM/bookfairs from July 20th-July 25th.
Reading is good! Music is good! On July 20, (next Wednesday), you can support both by coming to the Book Fair at Barnes and Noble, 2615 Vista Way in Oceanside.
2010-2011 Video Yearbooks complete!
The DVDs of the 2010-2011 Band & Color Guard Video Yearbook are now complete and at the high school! Seniors should stop by the band room to pick up their copy sometime this week. Everybody else should get their copy during class.
This year the discs are in special sleeves which allow the back to be pealed off and stuck to someplace safe and special. (Like maybe in your yearbook?) They are clear after being stuck down just in case you don't have any unsigned space - you'll be able to read through it.
Hungry? Panda Express Fundraiser!
Come out to the Panda Express across the street from Oceanside High School anytime today, June 2nd and help support the OHS Instrumental Music Boosters. Simply bring this flyer with you and we'll get a percentage of your purchase donated back to us!

Barnes and Noble Fundraiser this Saturday!
BARNES AND NOBLE IS HOSTING A SURPRISE FUNDRAISER for the OHS Instrumental Music Program And they've even put us on their list of events when you go to www.BarnesandNoble.com and look at stores and events! Isn't that exciting!
When: This Saturday, May 14th from open to close (9 a.m. to 11 p.m.)
Where: Barnes and Noble at the El Camino North Shopping Center, 2615 Vista Way in Oceanside
All a supporter of the OHS Instrumental Music program has to do is mention at the checkstand that you want to help the Oceanside High School Band! But that's not all--Barnes and Noble will also give a percentage to customers ordering online for 5 days afterwards--just note that the order is for the Oceanside High School Band Boosters.
Volunteers are needed to let customers know how they too can help the Oceanside High School Instrumental Program. Stephanie King has volunteered for the story hour at 11:00-11:45. You know what a "go-getter" Stephanie is--let's give her some support and give an hour at Barnes and Noble also. What hour or hours would you like to volunteer? Who knows--maybe you'll even find the book you've been dying to read!
Remember, all you have to do is mention at the checkstand that you are supporting the Oceanside High School Band or order online for 5 days afterward noting that the order is for the Oceanside High School Band Boosters.
More importantly remember that reading is a good thing--whether you do it the old-fashioned way with books or with the new-fashioned way with the Nook. So support the OHS Instrumental Program and let your family and friends know that they can too!
Souplantation Fundraiser
It's only a week away! We will be dining at Souplantation, 1860 Marron Rd in Carlsbad on January 26th from 5-8 p.m.
Did you drive into the marine layer like I did this morning? Wouldn't a bowl of hot homemade soup be just the ticket?
Need to lose that holiday weight gain? A fresh salad could get that diet started. Not only does Souplantation serves specialty salads but the favorites mixed to your specifications by your own two hands.
And my favorite--the bakery. Can you say blueberry muffins, buttermilk cornbread, and chocolate brownie muffins?
Not only that but Souplantation serves baked potatoes, pastas, and desserts (if you still have room and haven't overdone it in the bakery).
SEE YOU AT SOUPLANTATION, 1860 MARRON RD in CARLSBAD on JANUARY 26TH from 5-8 P.M.
